Cards have a face value of $25 and are sold to people for only $20 (each card costs $15 for scouts to acquire and sell).  These cards must be purchased in advance and are non-returnable, they can used at any Charlie Brown’s Restaurant in New Jersey, New York or Pennsylvania. Orders are due October 27th and cards will be delivered in early November.  This is a great gift for the holidays!  See the form attached to this announcement or obtain a form at one of the weekly scout meetings.  Please contact Cathy Alscher with any questions.

In the News: BSA National President Robert Gates
In October’s edition of Esquire, Mike Sager profiles the BSA national president, Dr. Robert M. Gates and the Boy Scouts of America.  Robert Gates, an Eagle Scout, became the thirty-fifth national president of the Boy Scouts in May 2014.  The former secretary of defense and CIA director called a Boy Scout leadership program he attended nearly sixty years ago "the only formal management class I've ever had.".  Robert Gates served as the 22nd United States Secretary of Defense from 2006 to 2011. He served for 26 years in the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Council, and under President George H. W. Bush was Director of Central Intelligence.

Walter Reeve Eagle Project
During Monday's meeting, Walter Reeve informed the troop that his Eagle Scout Project has been approved and he is progressing forward!
"My project is to clean and fix up the Veterans Memorial Garden which is located at the front of the West Deptford Township Building, 400 Crown Point Road in West Deptford, New Jersey. The area around the memorial is in bad shape and can use a real good cleaning and fixing up to show the respect that we have for our veterans and make it more inviting to attract more visitors."
Please see the email from Walter for additional information and how we can all help with fundraising efforts.

Welcome to our Newest Members of Troop 295!
We have two new members in our troop and both were welcomed in our first meeting in September. Welcome to the troop and we look forward to your success in scouting!!!

Announcements for September 8, 2014: First Weekly Scout Meeting / Fall Camping Dates / Event Registration / Using 'Remind'

Posted on Sep 8 2014 - 9:36am

Next Weekly Scout Meeting - Today!
The first weekly scout meeting for the fall is today at 7:30 !!!

Fall Camping Dates
Please check the calendar for fall camping dates and all other events.  The next campout is just a few weeks away on Sep19-21.  Please use the online registration to confirm attendance (even if you are unable to attend)

Confirming Attendance for Scheduled Campouts and Events
We have been using the online event registration on the troop website for a few years now. It has been a great way to publish camping and other events to the troop, allow people to easily register and (most importantly) confirm attendance. We are requesting that every household/family respond to each posted event for all active scouts and adults prior the ‘register by’ date noted. All active events for registration can be easily viewed and accessed on the right column of the website home page. This is important to ensure we always know who is going to an event (and who is not) for campsite or event registration, transportation, food and other needs.
The instructions for online registration can be found on the website under the ‘Files’ menu (link also below):
http://www.wdtroop295.org/system/files/WDTroop295_Online_Event_Registration_2014.09.pdf

Troop 295 is using 'Remind' for Key Communications - Please Subscribe!!!
Troop 295 routinely uses the troop’s website to facilitate communications through email. This works great, however……reaching everyone (including scouts) with any urgent information can be difficult using email. Troop 295 will be using the ‘Remind’ system in addition to email to allow for communication of urgent messages and reminders to all active adults and scouts. This service may sound familiar as many teachers and coaches use this same service to communicate key messages to students.

We are requesting that all adults and scouts (that have a mobile phone) register with the steps below or in the attached document. Please ask your scout to subscribe as well. We will provide the instructions to scouts at the next weekly scout meeting.

Detailed instructions for subscribing to this service for Troop 295 can be found on the website under the ‘Files’ menu (link below):
